Chrome Installation & "Keep Changes"

Installing ZenStack on Chrome is straightforward, but Google has a safety feature that confuses many new users.

The "Keep Changes" Popup

Immediately after you install ZenStack and open a new tab for the first time, Chrome will show a small popup box in the address bar area asking:

"Is this the New Tab page you expected?"

You must click "Keep it".

Important: If you click "Change it back", Chrome will disable ZenStack immediately.

I clicked "Change it back" by mistake. How do I fix it?

  1. Click the three dots (menu) in the top right corner of Chrome.
  2. Go to Extensions > Manage Extensions.
  3. Find ZenStack in the list.
  4. Toggle the switch to ON.

Microsoft Edge Setup

Microsoft Edge is very protective of its default Bing New Tab page. To use ZenStack, you need to manually approve it.

Step 1: Install

Click "Get" on the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store.

Step 2: Enable the Extension

Once installed, Edge might disable it by default. You will see a banner saying "ZenStack has been turned off to protect your settings."

Click the button that says "Turn on extension".

Step 3: The "Is this the page you wanted?" Popup

When you open your first new tab, Edge will ask if you want to keep ZenStack or switch back to Microsoft News.

Select "Keep Changes".

Importing Bookmarks

ZenStack is designed to work with your existing data so you don't have to start from scratch.

Automatic Import

On the very first run, ZenStack will detect your "Bookmarks Bar" folder and attempt to create a "Quick Links" board for you automatically.

Manual Import

If you skipped the initial setup:

  1. Open the sidebar (left side of the screen).
  2. Locate your "Other Bookmarks" or "Bookmarks Bar" folder in the tree.
  3. Drag and drop any folder onto your board canvas to create a new column instantly.
Pro Tip: You can drag an entire folder from the sidebar onto the main area to instantly turn that folder into a column!

Boards & Columns

ZenStack uses a Kanban-style layout (Columns and Cards) to organize your life.

Creating a Column

Click the + Add Column button at the top right of any board. Give it a name (e.g., "To Read", "Work", "Shopping").

Adding Links

There are three ways to add links:

  • Drag & Drop: Drag an open tab from the "Open Tabs" sidebar directly into a column.
  • Right Click: Right-click anywhere on a webpage and select "Save to ZenStack".
  • Manual: Click the "+" icon inside a column header to type a URL manually.

Themes & Wallpaper (Pro)

Make ZenStack your own by customizing the look and feel.

Switching Modes

Click the Settings (Gear) icon in the bottom left sidebar.

  • Light Mode: Clean, minimal, gray/white aesthetic.
  • Dark Mode: Easy on the eyes, dark gray/black tones.
  • Wallpaper Mode: (Pro Only) Use a custom background image.

Setting a Custom Wallpaper

In the Settings menu, select "Wallpaper". You can either upload an image from your computer or paste a URL to an image online.

Tip: For best results, use an image with a resolution of at least 1920x1080.

Syncing Data

ZenStack is built on top of the native Chrome/Edge Bookmark system. This means we do not store your data on our servers—it lives in your browser.

How to sync across computers

To see your ZenStack boards on both your home and work computer:

  1. Ensure you are signed into the browser (Chrome or Edge) with the same email account.
  2. Enable "Sync" in your browser settings.
  3. Ensure "Bookmarks" are checked in the Sync settings.

Once your browser syncs the bookmark data, ZenStack will automatically update to reflect the changes on the other device.

Managing Subscription

You can manage your billing, update your credit card, or download invoices directly from the Customer Portal.

Accessing the Portal

  1. Open a new tab to see ZenStack.
  2. Click the Settings (Gear) icon in the sidebar.
  3. Click the button labeled "Manage Subscription".

This will redirect you to Stripe, our secure payment processor.

Refunds & Cancellations

Cancellation

You can cancel your subscription at any time via the "Manage Subscription" link in the settings. Your Pro features will remain active until the end of the billing period.

Extension Not Showing?

If you installed ZenStack but you still see the default Google or Bing page when opening a new tab, follow these steps:

1. Check if it's enabled

Go to your browser's extension manager (`chrome://extensions`) and ensure ZenStack is toggled ON.

2. Check for conflicts

Browsers only allow one extension to control the New Tab page at a time. If you have other extensions like "Momentum" or "Earth View" installed, they might be overriding ZenStack.

Try disabling other New Tab extensions to see if ZenStack appears.
